The Top 10 Greatest Events/Stories/News in the Somerset Hills Survey

Top 10People new to the area often ask us "What are the most important stories or history of the area?" While we certainly have our opinion, we thought it'd be fun to allow our members, the public, and some important historians from the area the opportunity to submit what they think are the most historic top stories that shaped or influence our area.

Here's a few from our submissions already:

  • The capture of General Lee - December 13, 1776
  • AT&T moves its world headquarters to Basking Ridge - 1974
  • Route 287 and Route 78 open - July 29, 1966
  • General Henry Knox creates America's first military academy in Pluckemin - 1778

Here's Your Chance to Participate

This is a non-scientific gathering from participants willing to provide their opinion on the top 10 historic news, events, or activities that contributed, changed, identified the Somerset Hills community (Bedminster, Bernardsville, Bernards Twp, Far Hills, Peapack/Gladstone). This is your opinion and there is no right or wrong answer. Your input will be categorized and compared to other entries. A final list of the Top 10 of all entries will be compiled and a story written on the topic in a future THSSH Newsletter.
