1912 - April 14, 1912, Colonel John Jacob Astor IV, who lived in what is today the Bernards Township Administration Building, perished in the sinking of the Titanic. 1,523 people perished in the accident.
Robert Field Stockton , known as Commodore Stockton, a hero of the Mexican War who was instrumental in bringing the state of California into the Union in 1850, was a student at the Brick Academy until he was expelled for mischievous conduct.
