This program was founded in 2010 to honor the memory of Lorraine Passmore, a dedicated and long-time member of the Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH). About Lorraine Passmore
Lorraine Passmore of Basking Ridge began her 40-plus year love affair with local history soon after moving into an 18th century house in 1967, when she joined what was then called The Basking Ridge Historical Society, now the Historical Society of the Somerset Hills.
In 1976, Passmore, an antiques dealer, sat on the first steering committee for the restoration of the Brick Academy after the township moved offices out of the historic building and turned it over to the Society.
From 1977 to 1985 she was the non-profit organization’s secretary and sat on the board of trustees. She became membership chair in 1995 and managed the office files for many years.
“Volunteering is so important to our society and culture. Think of all the important things that wouldn’t have been if there weren’t volunteers,” said Passmore.
