The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills honored Daniel W. Lincoln at this year’s Somerset Hills YMCA Volunteer Recognition Night.
The event, held on Thursday, November 15, marked the 20th anniversary and was hosted at the newly-remodeled YMCA facility on Mt. Airy Road in Basking Ridge. The evening provides participating organizations the opportunity to honor their own volunteers, share in the community’s spirit of volunteerism as well as learn about one another’s volunteer programs. The 2007 awards were presented to 17 recipients from fifteen community non-profit organizations.
Daniel W. Lincoln of Bernardsville has been president of The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills since 1992 and a trustee since 1991. He serves on several committees and has consulted on the long-term restoration of the Brick Academy, headquarters of THSSH. In 2003, he became vice-chairman of the Bernardsville Historical Advisory Committee. An architect and planner by profession, Dan is married to Katherine and the couple has two grown children: Isobel, 24 and Edward, 21.
“Volunteering feels like the right thing to do: to be a caretaker or
steward of an area I care so much about,” said Dan, who came to Basking Ridge in 1979 and moved to Bernardsville 11 years later. “My wife and her family grew up here. They have always done volunteer work, as did mine in Massachusetts.”
