2005 - On January 11, 2005, resident Michael Chertoff is nominated by President George W. Bush as Director of Homeland Security taking over for former PA Governor Tom Ridge.
1969 - The descendents of Grant Schley sold Schley Mountain for $2.2 million for development of what is now known as The Hills Development of Bedminster and Bernards Township. By the time construction began in earnest on the Bernards side in the mid-1990s, Johns-Manville had sold its 50 percent share to William E. Simon and Sons. This group, in turn, auctioned off huge parcels to major home builders like K. Hovnanian, Pulte Homes and Toll Brothers.

THE NARATTED WALKING TOUR IS BACK!
Looking for a fun day out? We're bringing back the Walking Tour of Historic Basking Ridge Village.
Take in the village center, which remains a favorite Bernards Township
gathering place, with attractive shops and restaurants, churches, and what will be the last chance to see the historic great white oak before it is taken down.
One of the best events you'll ever experience. Walk and learn about famous, and not so famous, historic tidbits as you walk the historic downtown village of Basking Ridge in Bernards Township.
Start at the historic 1809 Brick Academy schoolhouse as you learn what it was like to attend a prepertory school of its time. Stroll over to this historic district of Basking Ridge, home to small shops, churches, homes and eateries. Meet some of the local residents and characters that are part of the tour. You never know....you might just get invited in.
Narrated by local resident and THSSH trustee Paula Axt, come for an entertaining hour of great stories and lore from the wonderful past as it comes alive.
